It seems like with every wedding I shoot, I love my job more and more. This wedding was no exception. I got lucky: this couple had more style, energy, and creativity than you can imagine and it really shows in all the photos!
When the ever-so-charming Tara was 15 years old, she met Matt - a sweet, tattooed, sartorially-blessed guy who built his own car from scratch and swept her off her feet. Fast forward ten years to 9-10-11 (a very popular wedding date!), way up in the Malibu mountains; Matt is barefoot, Tara is decked out in a big white dress and vintage striped Louboutin wedges, and the couple's "son" Otis (their Boston Terrier) is whining at their feet while the two exchange rings.
It was truly an Americana affair from the guests' attire - think suspenders and the Sartorialist - down to the smallest details. The bridal party got ready at the chic Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica where Tara gave her bridesmaids handmade bracelets. At Wright Ranch, there was a vintage pick-up truck and motorcycle, antique frames, a photobooth, Edison bulbs suspended above the tables, croquet and horseshoes, and so much more. Many of the decorations came straight from the groom's personal collection (check out his store opening in October in LaBrea)
The venue was perfect for them. When I first arrived at the location, Matt was taking a dip in the lake with Otis. The guests enjoyed gorgeous views of the Pacific from the cliffside and when a fog rolled in, it made the reception area feel even more enchanted and fairytale-esque. Friends and family gathered around a bonfire as the night got chillier and Matt's sister, Micah, sang "At Last" for the couple's first dance. Tara's mom put together a slide show to enjoy by the bonfire and after the cake-cutting, there was much toasting, roasting, and well-wishing for the couple.
Congratulations to Tara and Matt! Thanks for letting me be a part of your big day!
